It took ten days. Ten days of time away from him for me to recognize that Keir had become a drug to me, and I was a willing addict.

Angus was right. Everybody needed their space. And the toxic pull Keir had on me was alarming.

Regardless, my mind circled. I kept asking myself what I’d done for him to abandon me this way.

I couldn’t help but feel jilted.

Keir had nobody and still didn’t want me.

The days without him were long and lonely. I fell back into my old routine, pre-Keir, and spent my days with Mrs. Foster in the kitchens. She seemed genuinely happy to have me there and kept me busy. Even though the woe that covered me like a foggy shroud lingered, I found myself smiling again.

Of course, I thought about Keir. Wondered and worried about him. But, at the heart things, I just hoped he was okay.
